Cutting the cord for good: Dyson’s new cordless vacuum packs the same punch as a full size vacuum

Forget pesky cords and bulky cleaners. The latest Dyson Digital Slim™ DC59 vacuum is lightweight, cordless, and packs the same power as a mains vacuum cleaner. With 20 minutes of powerful suction, DC59 is light and easy to manoeuvre between high, low and hard to reach spaces. No more fiddling about with plugs or tripping over cords. Simply remove from the docking station and go.

James Dyson said, “The capability of our digital motors to power our cordless technology is accelerating. The new V6 Dyson digital motor is faster and stronger than its predecessor with a higher power density; giving DC59 the performance of a mains powered machine without being tethered to the wall.”

Integrated motor technology: the new V6 motor was engineered specifically for this machine. One and a half times more powerful than the previous motor, it draws more power from the battery source. Nothing wasted.

2 Tier Radial™ cyclones: 15 cyclones work in parallel across two tiers to capture fine dust. Dyson engineers ensured an equal flow of air throughout the cyclone pack, by engineering the airways, to guarantee constant centrifugal forces and high dust separation.

Tough on dust and dirt: a newly configured motorhead tackles dust and dirt on any surface. Carbon fibre antistatic bristles reduce the build-up of static charge, aiding capture of fine dust on hard floors. Nylon bristles work to trap ground-in dirt from carpets.

Light, versatile and easy to store: a small, light, power dense motor in the hand, instead of at the floor, makes it easy to clean up top, down low and in between spaces. The lightweight aluminium wand can be detached for stairs, upholstery, cars and other compact spaces. And storage is hassle free with a wall mounted docking station.

The machine is available from 1st October in the UK and costs £349.99.

This is definitely a brilliant piece of technology that we at Geekanoids would love to be using at our studio!

Dyson’s Tangle-free Turbine tool The only turbine tool that doesn’t tangle

Other turbine heads leave you tugging out the tangles. They rely on a brush bar to collect hair and dirt from the surface. Hair wraps around the brush bar slowing it down and overtime stopping it from working all together. Hair balls, scissors – and mess. Dyson’s Tangle-free Turbine tool uses two counter-rotating heads, with brushes to remove hair and dirt sucking it straight into the bin - hygienically. No tangles – no mess.

 James Dyson

“We put as much into developing our tools as we do our vacuum cleaners. After the Groom tool, the engineers were tasked with getting rid of another hairy problem. We found that rubbing hair in a circular motion and causing it to clump allowed for easy removal, so we replaced the brush bar in the turbine head with two counter-rotating heads - improving the performance of our machines.”

How it works...

Fitting on most Dyson vacuum cleaners, it is the only turbine tool that effectively removes hair from surfaces without tangling. The flexible counter-rotating heads (made from TPU- thermoplastic polyurethane) and articulating base plate ensure that he brushes remain in constant contact with a surface – no matter how uneven. The brushes on these heads maintain contact over a larger surface area (when compared to a conventional turbine tool).  They spin round to the very front of the tool, dislodging hair and dirt right up to the edges of stairs and corners. With the heads counter-rotating they continually overlap, maintaining full surface contact throughout.

The Dyson Tangle-free Turbine tool splits the airflow between the mouth of the tool (for removing hair and dirt and through the turbine (for generating head-rotation). Only clean air is directed over the turbine enabling the heads to rotate with constant power.

Dyson Hot™ fan heater warms up every part of the room – fast

Conventional heaters have limited settings; like a watched pot that never boils, they can’t always heat a whole room quickly. And central heating is sometimes wasted on the whole house. Engineered to heat the room, Dyson Hot™ fan heater is the fastest to heat the room evenly.

Dyson Hot™ fan heater can be set between 1 and 37 degrees celsius to heat a room. When it hits the desired temperature, it monitors the room temperature by measuring surrounding air. If a drop is detected, the heater turns back on to maintain the set temperature.

James Dyson says:

“Other fan heaters rely on inefficient motors or dust friendly grills. As the heat rises you’re left with a partially heated room and a worrying burning smell. Dyson engineers have developed a heater that produces no smell and heats the whole room”.

It took a team of 22 engineers - including experts in thermo dynamics and fluid mechanics - over three years researching, developing and testing Dyson’s patented Air Multiplier™ technology for its application in a heater.

How it works: Using patented Air Multiplier™ technology, air is drawn in through a mixed flow impeller, a combination of the technologies used in turbochargers and jet engines. It is then accelerated through a 2.5mm aperture (the thickness of a £2 coin) set within the loop amplifier.  This creates a jet of hot air which passes over an airfoil-shaped ramp channelling its direction.  Surrounding air is drawn into the airflow, amplifying it 6 times in a process known as inducement and entrainment.

Safety: Low surface temperatures throughout and no visible heating elements. And if tipped over, the machine has been engineered to automatically cut out.

Remote Control: Turning the Dyson Hot™ fan heater on and off, adjusting temperature, airflow rate and controlling oscillation can be done easily from across a room.  The remote control is curved and magnetised to store neatly on top of the machine.

Precision: Dyson Hot™ fan heater has temperature controls and an intelligent thermostat. Variable airflow and oscillation is controlled either by remote or on the front of the machine.

Cooling fan: Unlike conventional heaters it has a dual-mode function as a cooling fan. In keeping with Dyson’s Air Multiplier™ range it couples high airflow and velocity.
