Mobile Phone Technology Moving at Lightning Speed

Mobile phone technology is moving faster than ever and now with smartphones available for an affordable price, our phones are doing more and more for us than ever before. Not all smart phones are fantastic though and, as with anything, there are some phones that are better than others. Some are faster, some have better features, some have the best software; there are many reasons why phones are classed as good. Here is a quick rundown of some of the very best smartphones in the world and why they are considered as such.

Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc
Incredibly impressive hardware and great aesthetics are what you can expect from the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc as the best smartphone from Sony Ericsson approaches a year in the smartphone market. It has some flaws, but the high points make up for it and then some, with the phone's 8.1 megapixel camera being one of these.

iPhone 4
The world's most popular smartphone and for good reason, it has some of the best hardware, including a screen on which the human eye cannot pick out any individual pixel, and some great software as well. Although there are some dual core phones that are now moving past it, this is the best single core phone on the market.

Samsung Galaxy S II
The original Galaxy was great but this follow up is really much better. A dual core 1.2 GHz processor and a great 4.3 inch screen, perfect for watching movies, are just two of the reasons why you should buy this phone. The web browsing, utilising Flash, is seamless and the camera is good enough to use as a digital camcorder. The best phone in the world today by some margin.

HTC Desire
The next Desire is out soon but this is still a fantastic phone and offers a cheap alternative to many of the other smart phones out there. The phone utilises the Android software like no other and is still up there with the best a year after its release.

Is SIM only the way to go?

With the likes of the iPhone 4, HTC Desire HD and the newest Windows Phone 7 mobile phones demanding either high prices or a lengthy and expensive 24 month contract, is one of the many sim only deals a better way to go. The likes of O2, T-Mobile, Orange and Vodafone all offer sim only contract deals, but shop around and you might find something even better.

For example, Tesco Mobile offer a brilliant 30 day contract sim only package. For just £15 per month you get 500 minutes of talk time, unlimited texts and 500MB of data allowance. This is very appealing to many as you are not committing to a long term contract. This leaves the user free to change phones when a new one is launched and take their sim card and number with them. It also allows easy changing to another provider if a better deal comes along.

On a personal note, when the iPhone first came out I signed up for a contract and was really annoyed that a new model of iPhone came out before my contract had run its entirety. Ever since I have only ever used sim only deals and purchased my handsets elsewhere.

HTC Announce Compact Gratia Mobile Phone

It seems like all HTC news lately, with HTC Corporation, a global designer of smartphones, today announcing the European launch of HTC Gratia, a rich and elegant addition to Android’s smartphone portfolio.

Combining style and functionality, the sleek and compact HTC Gratia features a seamless wrap-around soft-cover that eliminates hard edges and a five megapixel colour camera with auto focus. At just over four inches in length and weighing 4.06 ounces, it packs power thanks to Android 2.2 – the latest version of Android.
HTC Gratia also embodies the acclaimed HTC Sense™ experience, which places you at the centre, by making your phone work in a more personal and natural way, while providing unexpected features that put a smile on your face.  It also offers you more ways to stay connected with Friend Stream – an application that brings all of your Facebook, Twitter and Flickr updates into a single, organized flow of updates –  making keeping in touch with friends on social networks even easier.

“HTC’s mantra is to provide a unique mix of experience and choice to people using our phones,” said Florian Seiche, President of HTC Europe, Middle East and Africa. “HTC Gratia offers something completely different. Its compact size, beautiful design and power with Android 2.2, combined with its personalised experience through HTC Sense, is uniquely compelling. We can’t wait to bring HTC Gratia to our customers in Europe.”

The HTC Gratia will be available in green, black or white (pictured) through mobile operators and retailers across major European markets from November 2010.
